Updated Info About 'Bel Ami' Release Date

After the Total Film article about 'Bel Ami' release date, Bel Ami Film contacted Protagonist Pictures to check the "December 2011" date.

Protagonist Pictures' reply:
There’s no distributor attached to the film in the US as yet so therefore no release date. No confirmation on the UK yet either I’m afraid – we’ll post this info on our website as soon as there is a definite date. I think the ETA on Total Film is purely speculative at this stage.

ETA: According to Independent Films, the distributor for 'Bel Ami, the Dutch release date is February 17, 2011

Thanks to Brumbears for the Dutch date

BBC James King's Analysis!-Robert Pattinson future projects and Career

Image and video hosting by
TinyPic

It's certainly a good move for him to make. I remember reading the book of Bel Ami in my French classes at school and Rob's character, the fame hungry Georges Dulroy, is a million miles away from icy Edward Cullen. This is the story of a social climber, a Parisian nobody who works his way up the financial ladder by being the arm-candy of frustrated housewives. It's a great role.

And, of course, it's a role that he needs to be a success to get away from that relentless curse of the franchise star - type-casting. As Zac Efron attempts the same thing - turning down the teen-tastic Footloose in favour of moody drama Charlie St Cloud - both guys face a battle with the media over whether they can be seen outside of their blockbuster bubble. Both, I reckon, have the talent to pull it off.

More importantly, they've also got the looks. Whilst Star Wars leading man Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) struggled to find other hit movies it was his decidedly sexier co-star Harrison Ford that hit the big time. Ditto Eilijah Wood and Viggo Mortensen from Lord Of The Rings. The jury's still out on exactly who will break out of the shadow of Harry Potter although maybe R Pattz, as the former Cedric Diggory, has already claimed that prize. With upcoming movies co-starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz (Unbound
Captives) and Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz (Water For Elephants) he's certainly got the cream of Hollywood on his side, with those projects reeking of awards potential.

Even if they do what Rob's recent pic Remember Me did - ie. disappear without a trace - then I still think that the guy's got the talent (and cheekbones) to do a Johnny Depp and, aged 40, find himself the toast of mainstream Hollywood with a wayout role in some Disney blockbuster. Don't forget, Depp's movies were generally only cult hits until Jack Sparrow came along.

So have another look at these Bel Ami pics and remember this moment. Come 2030, that guy you're looking at now could be starring as a rum-swigging Jack Jnr in Pirates Of The Caribbean 12. Arguably a better career move than Taylor Lautner, recently signed up for Stretch Armstrong, a movie based on a plastic toy. Savvy?

2 NEW HQ Stills of Bel Ami

One is new and the other one in HQ. Click for HQ

The first official images from Bel Ami starring Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci and Colm Meaney have been released and we’ve got them in high resolution after the jump. The film which also stars Philip Glenister and Holliday Grainger was shot on locations in and around London and Budapest during an eleven week shoot. Shooting wrapped on April 22nd.

Directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, the film is an erotically charged story of ambition, power and seduction. Georges Duroy (Robert Pattinson), travels through 1890s Paris, from cockroach ridden garrets to opulent salons, using his wits and powers of seduction to rise from poverty to wealth, from a prostitute’s embrace to passionate trysts with wealthy beauties, in a world where politics and media jostle for influence, where sex is power and celebrity an obsession.

Here’s some more info on the film and further down are the images:

Uma Thurman (Kill Bill) is Madeleine, Kristin Scott Thomas (Nowhere Boy) is Virginie, Christina Ricci (Monster) is Clotilde, Colm Meaney (The Damned United) is Rousset, Philip Glenister (Life on Mars) is Charles and Holliday Grainger (Scouting Book for Boys) is Suzanne.

The screenplay is by Rachel Bennette from the novel by Guy de Maupassant. Uberto Pasolini (The Full Monty) is the Producer and Simon Fuller is Executive Producer. The Director of Photography is Stefano Falivene (Carmel); Attila F. Kovacs (Sunshine) is Production Designer; Costumes are designed by Odile Dicks-Mireaux (An Education); Hair and Make-up is by Jenny Shircore (The Young Victoria) and the Editor is Masahiro Hirakubo (The Duchess).

Translation

"Even is he's wearing a costume, and is hidden under a top hat, it's impossible not to recognize the beautiful face of Robert Pattinson. The hunk from twilight intends to reach a more mature audience in Bel Ami. You are actually seeing a scene being shot. This film is about a former soldier who became a journalist . he's climbing the social ladder by seducing a lot of women. In our exclusive images , we can see Robert buying flowers for his lover and we can also see him reading a newspaper. The actor is actually in Hungary for the shooting with Kristin scott Thomas. Between takes , he is smiling. Bel Ami will be released next year"
