FRIDAY 2:15 PM: I was just told that the New Line/Warner Bros reimagining of A Nightmare On Elm Street debuted to $1.6 million from Thursday midnight shows in about 1,000 theaters. That’s way more than the previous record for a horror flick: the February 2009 rebooted Friday The 13th’s $1 million. Today, Nightmare opens in 3,332 locations and my sources tell me right now the Friday domestic grosses look like a whopping $15M to $17M. So that’s a $40+M opening weekend for sure. In all, this is the 9th in the infamous franchise (if you count number Freddy vs Jason) with Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger. (Robert Englund used to scare me so badly I couldn’t even watch the trailers.)

Frankly, after watching this trailer once, we may never sleep again.

SPOILER ALERT: he’s only in “A Nightmare On Elm Street” for a few brief moments, but it’s enough to earn him a spot as our Hump Day Hottie. Plus, we figured it might be a nice way to welcome him to the world of Twitter (his account was confirmed today!). Welcome, Kellan and congrats on being our hottie this week!
Vital Stats: This 25-year-old North Dakota native is apparently as smart as he is attractive. Sure, he’s modeled , but he’s even had a stint as a college student studying chemical engineering at Chapman University. But, like so many good looking dudes before him, he caught the acting bug and the rest is history.

Kellan in the MTV “must-see list” at Tribeca Film Festival
These days, it feels like every major city — and more than a few minor ones — has its own film festival. But few can approach the credibility, level of quality and star-studded pleasure of the annual Tribeca Film Festival, which once again kicks off in the heart of New York City this week. When we recently sat down for an interview with co-founder Robert De Niro, he was as excited for the new crop of films as we are.
“I’m very happy that we’ve managed to make it work and it be a success, and I’m very happy,” explained the Oscar-winning screen legend. “I hope it goes down for a long time — a lot longer than I’m around. That would be great. [I hope it becomes] part of a real tradition of New York and part of the fabric of New York.”
With that in mind, and as the fest kicks off, we’ve combed over our TFF guide and humbly present this list of the five films we’re most eager to see:
“Meskada”: For “Twilight” fans, three words explain why this movie is in such great demand: Shirtless. Kellan. Lutz. The crime drama follows an affluent town dealing with the brutal murder of a young boy, co-stars Nick Stahl and Rachel Nichols and is sure to elicit an “OME!” or two.

Kellan Lutz is dubbed one of Hollywood’s five hottest men in VMAN’s upcoming issue #18, on stands April 20th. (He of course is wearing a Calvin Klein jacket.)
The 25-year-old actor is currently in negotiations to star in an indie action movie called Deathgames opposite Samuel L. Jackson.

Lutz, who appears in the upcoming remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” next week begins shooting the Dermot Mulroney-directed romantic comedy “Keep It Together” opposite Mandy Moore. “Together” also is shooting in Louisiana, and the Innovative-repped actor will segue from that straight to “Deathsport.” In June, Lutz moves to “Immortals,” Relativity’s Greek myth fantasy in which he plays Poseidon.

Actor, action-movie star, farmhand, Calvin Klein underwear model, and nascent motivational speaker, Kellan Lutz is the man of the moment. The determined 25-year-old Lutz has made a name for himself with roles as a cocky, good-looking jock with rich parents on CW’s 90210, a soldier stationed in Iraq in HBO’s Generation Kill (2008), and a vampire in the Twilight series—a trifecta of mainstream masculinity. He is a superhero-in-waiting, unbothered by an unbuttoned shirt, and thirsty for a franchise phenomenon of his own.
Born in North Dakota and raised in Arizona with frequent visits to the family farm in Iowa, Lutz has a backstory that is authentically rugged and thoroughly American—a Bruce Weber–esque narrative that became an actual Bruce Weber narrative in 2004 when Lutz appeared, photographed by Weber, on the cover of the A&F Quarterly magazine. But it’s Hollywood time now, and Lutz is hard at work. There’s this month’s A Nightmare on Elm Street remake; a turn as a hotheaded lacrosse player opposite fellow Twilight-er Ashley Greene in Warrior; the independent murder mystery Meskada with Nick Stahl and Grace Gummer; and then, most importantly, more Twilight (the third installment, Eclipse, is out in June). MARK JACOBS: Hi, Kellan? Where are you right now?
KELLAN LUTZ: I am in my backyard in L.A. hanging out with my two dogs.
JACOBS: Who are your dogs?
LUTZ: Kola is a shepherd-husky mix I adopted from the Compton animal shelter. Kevin is the newest, most adorable member of our family. He’s a Chihuahua. I found him on the street when I came back from one of my trips.
JACOBS: You spent time on a dairy farm in Iowa while you were growing up?
LUTZ: Iowa is where the big farm was, where my grandparents lived. After my parents divorced, we would visit them. My mom would send me out to the pigpen, where we had these huge, huge pigs. I would stand there for six hours holding a hose, watering pigs. They’d dive in the mud and shake it off, and I’d go home covered in it. I loved the whole thing of getting wet and dirty and then getting in a warm bath.
JACOBS: You also have experience spraying crops and building silos. Are you aware of how this story reads in New York and L.A.? Anything involving uncontrived hard labor is irresistible to the style industry.
LUTZ: I’d rather do manual labor than sit behind a desk. And as my grandparents got older, I’d fly out there and help out around the farm. We’d tear barns down; we’d build barns. I’d rather be outside rolling hay or driving the tractors.
JACOBS: Then how did you choose Hollywood?
LUTZ: I have a lot of older brothers who messed up in different ways in my mother’s eyes. So I learned from all of their mistakes. I can’t go into detail, but while I was growing up, I always tried to make it a goal to relieve some of the stress my mother went through. I applied myself to school very diligently. I wanted to go out of state so I wouldn’t have to depend on my mother. And L.A., where my father lived, seemed to call to me.
JACOBS: Why acting?
LUTZ: In L.A., I was meeting people who were all actors. My mind started to open up to what acting was. I didn’t realize that Brad Pitt was a real person. I didn’t think he was a robot or a machine, but I thought you were just born into acting—that it’s a family tree, kind of like NASCAR. No one can just say, “Hey, I’m going to be a
NASCAR driver.” They need to have some way in. Once I was in L.A., I realized anyone could do this. Why not give it a shot? I started going to a ton of acting classes, and I found I had a real passion for it, probably the biggest passion I’ve ever had in my whole life. So I decided to put school aside, put all my scholarships aside, put everything that I worked hard on for my mother and myself aside, and pursue this roller-coaster ride.
JACOBS: How old were you when you got the -Abercrombie & Fitch cover?
LUTZ: Eighteen. I was actually working in L.A. at an Abercrombie to make friends. I had no friends.
JACOBS: On the sales floor?
LUTZ: I was selling clothes. But I believe my personality helped, because I was the worst folder. I just couldn’t care to do it. I felt like I had ADD. I would just goof around and shoot rubber bands everywhere. Somehow the manager didn’t fire me, and I became a greeter, when you have to stand outside, you know, topless, and kind of finagle people into the store. Then Abercrombie had an audition, and my agency sent me out. I met Bruce Weber, and they chose me. I wasn’t the strongest, most fit, best-looking guy on that shoot, but somehow Bruce put me on the cover. I was just lying on the grass playing with this beetle, and they used that shot. I was still working at the store when the magazine came out two months later. I was just very lucky, and that opened up doors to acting.
JACOBS: Unlike some actors, you don’t seem to have a need to distance yourself from modeling.
LUTZ: It’s weird that the world sees modeling as a negative. It just blows my mind how many people think that because I was a model, I think I’m pretty and that I can use my looks to get ahead. I’m not pretty!
JACOBS: You really don’t think you’re pretty?
LUTZ: It’s funny when people say you have sex appeal or call you the next Brad Pitt. I just laugh. I’m not that. I don’t want to be that. “You’re a sex icon.” Why? Because I played a vampire in a movie? It’s all very unearned. If I had the best freaking abs in the world or if I looked like Brad Pitt does in Fight Club [1999], then cool, but I’m not starving myself. I eat what I want, and I’m not a workout fiend. My genetics are good, but they aren’t crazy He-Man style. I don’t get it, but I appreciate it. [laughs]
JACOBS: And sometimes you just like to go on a shirtless run with your dog, and people need to deal with it.
LUTZ: I don’t see why it’s special. I know a lot of people who run shirtless because they don’t want their clothes to get sweaty. I’m just a normal person. And I have four paparazzi who sit outside my house all day.
JACOBS: Your humility is charming, but do you ever look at other guys going up for a role and think, “I can destroy you with my good looks”?
LUTZ: I love competition. I thrive on it. I love being able to win the room over before even walking through the door. When I was going out for Twilight, I was a big guy, especially after Generation Kill. I was close to 200 pounds and just all muscle. The character description was a big, bulky fighter, a wrestler, a bear of a guy with a smile. I walked in the waiting room and I noticed nine other actors, and half of them were trying to do push-ups, and half of them were trying to be all tough. I chuckled to myself. I’m very perceptive. I love seeing guys out of the corner of my eye be like, “Great.” Because they see a guy walking in who totally looks the role. It’s funny. I don’t try to be cocky, but I’m just very confident because I know I did all of my homework. I also really love, love
JACOBS: So you have four very different films coming up.
LUTZ: I’ve had a great run with great projects. Especially the new ones. I love this industry. It keeps you young; it really does.
JACOBS: You’re pretty young.
LUTZ: I’ll always see myself as young at heart. I mean, I’m 25, and some people see that as getting up there.
JACOBS: Who’s telling you you’re getting up there?
LUTZ: People are saying that you can’t play high school anymore and I’m like, “Thank god.” I want to be the Jason Bourne type. I don’t want to play high school.
JACOBS: You’re unapologetic about wanting to be an action star.
LUTZ: It’s all about goals. If you just take whatever comes to you, then you’re not going to get anywhere. The more you say it around town or in meetings, it starts happening. That’s what’s going on right now. People are seeing me as the guy who wants to get hurt, who wants to break a bone, get bruises. And that’s how it was growing up with six brothers. I got beat up, and I beat up people. I have no real tattoos. I wear my bruises and tons of scars as my -tattoos. And I’ve grown up loving action movies. I’d love to work with Sylvester Stallone, and I almost had the chance to in The Expendables [out August 2010], but that didn’t work out because of scheduling. I’d love to work with him and Mickey Rourke, Matt Damon, Daniel Craig, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Jean-Claude Van Damme. . . . Bloodsport [1988] was one of my favorite movies. I feel like there’s only so many roles out there and such a surplus of actors that if you don’t have a goal, you just get lost.
JACOBS: You’ve covered your bases. You even did a Hilary Duff video [“With Love”].
LUTZ: My agent and my girlfriend at the time both wanted me to go out for the audition. There’s a quote, I think it’s Wayne Gretzky, that says you miss 100 percent of the shots you never take. That’s so true. That’s why I love going out for any audition. I’m very professional, I study my stuff, I work on it, and even if I’m not right for the job, so what? I know I did my best.
JACOBS: You keep getting roles because you’re a talented actor and you’re dedicated to what you do.
LUTZ: I’ve got a lot to learn, and I’m very blessed to work with such talented actors. I’m nowhere near my goal. It’s all about applying yourself and taking time to work and train. I want to be doing this until the day I die. I want to be in movies and working with people who push me to be a better actor. That’s what I look forward to, and that’s what’s important to me. I just want to test out all that Kellan is and push him to the limits and create new Kellans.
, love doing character pieces. I love wearing wigs to auditions, even though sometimes they don’t work. I love trying to play the not-confident guy, the guy against my normal character, because that’s when real acting comes into play.

Sam Jackson and Kellan Lutz have signed on to star in the underground fighting thriller Fury directed by Jonah Loop. The film centers on drifter David Lord who finds himself forced into the savage world of a modern gladiatorial arena, where men fight to the death for the entertainment of the online masses and the profit of Radu, a sadistic capitalist that makes Vince McMahon look like Howie Mandel. David’s defiance to willingly execute his beaten opponents per the “rules” of the game, makes him the target of resident executioner and psychopath, Constantin, who makes it his personal mission to destroy David. Filming is set to begin May 5 in Baton Rouge.

Love, Wedding, Marriage Cast complete
Dermot Mulroney is moving forward with his directorial debut, “Love, Wedding, Marriage,” lining up Mandy Moore, Kellan Lutz, James Brolin and Jane Seymour to star in the romantic comedy.
The movie has seen financing come and go and return again, and the cast has gone through Tetris-style combinations with names including Jessica Alba, Christopher Walken and Blythe Danner circling.
Financing is being finalized, but the movie produced by Michelle Chydzik is slated to go before cameras April 19 in Louisiana. Nathalie Marciano is executive producing the picture, whose title might change to “Keep It Together.”
The story centers on a newlywed marriage counselor (Moore) who is thrown for a loop when she learns that her parents, whose marriage she’s always idealized, are headed for divorce. She sets out on a disastrous path to save their marriage at the expense of her own, manipulating loved ones to achieve her objectives.
Lutz will play her husband; Brolin and Seymour will play the parents.

MTV: Kellan Lutz Joins ‘War Of The Gods’
“Twilight” actor Kellan Lutz is the newest recruit in “War of the Gods,” the upcoming Greek mythology epic from director Tarsem Singh (“The Fall”).
Lutz has earned the role of Poseidon, the Greek god that rules over the seas, according to Variety. He joins an impressive cast list that includes Henry Cavill (“The Tudors”) as the heroic Theseus, Mickey Rourke (“Iron Man 2″) as the ruthless King Hyperion and Freida Pinto (“Slumdog Millionaire”) as Phaedra, an oracle priestess.
“War of the Gods” is a swords-and-sandals epic centered on mortal soldiers caught in a war between the eternal Greek gods and the evil Titans, with the fate of mankind hanging in the balance. Production is scheduled to begin in April based on a screenplay written by Jason Keller.
Lutz is no stranger to fantasy fare, thanks to his beloved “Twilight” role of Emmett Cullen, one of the many foster siblings of Robert Pattinson’s character. The actor was also a reported leading contender for the title role in director Marcus Nispel’s “Conan,” though he ultimately lost the part to Jason Momoa (“Stargate: Atlantis”). Lutz will next be seen in the upcoming “Nightmare on Elm Street” revival.
“War of the Gods” is the latest in a string of movies dealing with Greek mythology. Director Chris Columbus’ “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” debuted in February to positive reviews and solid box-office success, while Louis Leterrier’s “Clash of the Titans” remake will land in both regular and 3-D theaters on April 2.

RPattz Polish Interview
You must be really happy that with that movie you can change your public image a bit, you smoke and drink all the time in it, get into fist fights, you’re no longer just that ‘pretty boy’.
I don’t know. That script seemed just very honest and real, you don’t get something like that too often, but sometimes, reality can be just incredibly boring and fantasy is just more fun to play. But in that script there was just something very special, I’ve never seen a movie like that. Generally though, I don’t have any special preferences.
Are you kind of tired of fame because of all the chaos that happened after Twilight, are you bothered by the whole interest? Does it make your life very difficult?
Sometimes. I mean, like when I’m in New York and I can’t go out at all. [Or anywhere in the world probably] Some places, in some places it’s easier, there are places where people’ve never heard of Twilight [well don’t come to Poland then] Oh yeah? They’re big fans? [oh yeah, they all know you]. It can be very frustrating, but there’s always some way around it, if you plan ahead you can have a semblance of a normal life. [Yeah, but in normal life there’s no need for special planning] I mean I think it pays off, I hate when I go out for dinner and there’s a whole crowd of people outside, and even if I just know that that crowd is there, I just can’t enjoy whatever I’m doing [because you know what’s going to happen after you leave] Yeah, and so I have to plan to be able to avoid that. But then again there are situations when the crowds of fans are great, like this morning, when I went to the Today Show. It’s such a surreal, strange thing, I mean, I’m just 23 and it’s already so massive, it’s like a turning point in my life.
There’s going to be more films in the series so it’s probably just going to be escalating and last for few more years.
I don’t know how it can really escalate more, there’s nowhere it can really go [we’ll maybe meet in a year or two and you’ll tell me if it happened] yeah. Just before Christmas I was in Munich, I was at a stadium and there was 20 000 people there [screaming your name] yeah, and I didn’t even do anything, I just said ‘Hi’ and that’s it, it’s completely surreal, there’s no other word for it.
You must be happy that your career is going the way it is?
Definitely. There weren’t any bad sides, I mean, I can do movies that I really want to do now [you have a choice and that’s the most important thing for an actor] yeah, it’s amazing. I mean, there’s a bit more pressure on you and what jobs you do, but generally it’s great. And I hope that for the next few years I’m just going to have great fun.
Robert Pattinson And Cast Discuss Controversial 'Remember Me' Ending
From Paul Greengrass' nerve-jangling "United 93" to Adam Sandler's maudlin drama "Reign Over Me," the events of September 11, 2001, have served as both the main event and the trauma-infused context for a string of Hollywood films. The latest cinematic exploration of 9/11 comes during Robert Pattinson's romantic drama "Remember Me."
At the end of what appears to be a commonplace love story between two young New Yorkers — played by Pattinson and "Lost" star Emilie de Ravin — the audience learns that the events of the film are actually set almost one decade in the past. Pattinson's character travels up to his father's office, which we suddenly realize is housed in the World Trade Center and that he's gone to meet his dad on the morning of September 11. He is killed as the planes collide with the towers.
It's a controversial ending, no doubt, one fraught with issues of emotional and historical memory, the exigencies of narrative storytelling and the potential exploitation of 21st-century America's defining trauma. These are all matters that weighed heavily on the minds of Pattinson and his co-stars, as well as director Allen Coulter. MTV News spoke with each of them to get their personal take on the ending of "Remember Me" and why each felt 9/11 was so integral to the story at large. Here is what they had to say.
Robert Pattinson: "When I first read the script, it seemed so much a part of it. As soon as I read it, I felt immediately connected to it. If it was edited down in any way, I don't think it would be the same thing. I always feel there's some kind of power to the script. I wanted to keep that in the movie."
Emilie de Ravin: "For me, it was handled so beautifully, but it was also just such a surprise to me the first time I read it. I think I've cried every time I read this script and seen this film — so I might have to walk out when we're watching it! But it's such an important part of history and I think everyone's going to have a completely different opinion because everyone has a different experience, whether they were involved or know somebody involved. Everyone remembers exactly where they were when they heard about it."
Pierce Brosnan: "Will Fetters, the writer — this young man really drew up a beautiful story about this significant, emotional time in all our history and all our life, one which the generations will reverberate from. That bright blue morning of 9/11 is indelibly etched in our hearts. So this young writer took a love story and painted the story up against the backdrop of 9/11. The movie is a simple movie, but it makes you appreciate the moment of life and time.
Chris Cooper: "I had some concern about the portion of this film that is a bit of a surprise and I hoped that it would be handled tastefully — as tastefully as it could be. I must say after I saw it, I don't know how you could handle it anymore tastefully but still get the idea across of the loss. I think the strongest thing in the film is the idea of loss. My character and my daughter [de Ravin], early in the film we've encountered heavy loss and we learn more about Robert Pattinson and what is going on with his family and what they have lost. I just think it's a theme throughout."
Director Allen Coulter: "The fact is that, from the very beginning, this is a story about what we call 'the bolt from the blue' — the unexpected event that alters the trajectory of your life. We start with a very personal story, and as the story unfolds that very notion is enlarged upon and goes from the personal to the universal. We felt we were trying to humanize that kind of event."

Kellan Is Scared Of Freddy In ‘A Nightmare On Elm Street’
While Kellan Lutz plays a scary creature in the “Twilight Saga” – if you call a vegetarian vampire scary, that is — it’s his next role in the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” remake that has him really frightened. You see, it seems Lutz’s connection to the flick and its bad guy, Freddy Krueger, runs all the way to his childhood.
“That was one of the movies that actually scared me growing up,” Lutz told MTV News about the 1984 remake, due out on April 30. “My brothers were the biggest threat growing up with all the poundings, but Jason and Chucky weren’t too scary. I laughed at them. Clowns are funny to me.”

Kellan ‘Wouldn’t Want To See’ ‘Breaking Dawn’ In 3-D
What does Kellan Lutz think about the idea of releasing “Breaking Dawn” in 3-D, when (or if) it’s made? Well, he’s not too keen on the idea.
“I heard they were talking about it. I don’t really care to see it in 3-D,” he told MTV News on the red carpet at Cosmopolitan magazine’s 2010 Fun Fearless Males party on Monday night in New York City.
Like Pattinson, Lutz isn’t a big fan of movies filmed in multiple dimensions. “3-D kind of hurts my eyes anyways. ‘Avatar’ was amazing in 3-D and in Imax, but I don’t think I wanna see a little baby half-vampire in 3-D,” he said, echoing a similar sentiment made by Stewart. “There’s just some scenes I just wouldn’t want to see in 3-D.”
And with no formal announcement that more movies will be shot from the “Twilight Saga,” Lutz is in favor of breaking the book up into two flicks with “New Moon” helmer Chris Weitz back in the director’s chair, if the film should get the green light. “I’d love to see Chris Weitz come back,” he said late last year. “I just had so much fun shooting with him. I mean, obviously I would just love to do ['Breaking Dawn']. There’s no word. … Hopefully we get that phone call, and if they want to make it into five movies, I just don’t want it to end. I love my character so much.”

Kellan’s Message to Stephenie Meyer: Write Another Book
Kellan Lutz is one proud Twi-hard. “I love being my character, Emmett, and I love this franchise,” Kellan professes about the movies that made him famous. Whether or not Kellan will reprise his role once or twice for Twilight’s final book is anyone’s guess, but obvi he’s rooting for Breaking Dawn to be divided into two movies.
“I love the actors, the production teams, the director. It’s great to love a job in a way that has continuous projects with it, so I hope Stephenie Meyer writes another book that we get to act in also.”
That could be a possibility. Did you know that Stephenie Meyer began writing a fifth Twilight book, written from Edward Cullen’s point-of-view? It’s called Midnight Sun, but Stephenie stopped writing because an early copy of the manuscript was illegally leaked online and it deeply upset her. On her official blog, she writes, “If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn’t dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.”

Kellan Lutz Says ‘True Blood’ Vampires Would Kick The Cullens’ Butts!
Lindsey asks Stephen Moyer, Kellan Lutz and Paul Wesley, which vampire cast would win in a battle for blood? Who do you think?
It’s time to spill some blood! We caught up with three vampires – one from each cast — Stephen Moyer, Kellan Lutz, and Paul Wesley — at Cosmopolitan magazine’s “Fun Fearless Male Awards” at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in NYC on Mar. 1 and they admitted there might be some ass kicking involved if the three casts were ever to fight. And who would win? True Blood’s Stephen Moyer thinks, “We could take both of them [Twilight and Vampire Diaries] down at the same time!”
Stephen, who plays Bill Compton, continued, “We are much older than those whipper snappers [and] just me and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard )” would tear the other two casts apart in a matter of seconds!
Twilight’s Kellan Lutz agreed that True Blood would carry the deadliest stake: “I think True Blood would kick all our asses. Eric on True Blood) would kick all our asses. He’s a bad ass on the show.” But, he continued, “Really, who knows. We all have different strengths and powers.” For the Cullen clan, “you have to rip us apart. That can be tough if you [don't have] super human strength to do that.”
Vampire Diaries‘ Paul Wesley stood by himself when asked which cast would win. “I would win any fight, any vampire fight,” he said. But, for him, the battle lies within the scenes of his own show. He admitted he’s thirsty for Damon’s (played by Ian Somerhalder) blood. “I would kick Damon’s ass! I’m convinced of that and I plan on kicking his ass in future episodes,” he shared with us.
