What are you wishing back the most when you think back to your old life?
I had this fantastic, really old London flat in Soho. You could climb onto the roof and had a wonderful view over the city. Almost every day I was up there, played music, wrote songs and tried to record them.

Twilight Star Robert Pattinson about love without rules, the first, exciting love, why he would love to have a dog and why he only lives in hotels.

Robert Pattinson drinks tea with milk for breakfast. He switchs off the air conditioning and in exchange opens a window. During the interview in the “Four Seasons” Hotel in Beverley Hills the 24-year-old Twilight star wears a black t-shirt with beige Levis jeans. His legendary hair is cut short at the sides. That’s because of his role in the circus-drama “Water for Elephants” set in the 30th, which he shoots at the moment alongside Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz. A huge difference to Edward Cullen, the vampire, with which millions of girls have fallen in love. In the third film of the series, named “Eclipse”, Bella (Kristen Stewart) has to avow to her undying love. In real life both of them remain silent about their relationship. Robert continues to be a man girls dream about.


All your “Twilight” colleagues said that you were in love with Edward after reading the books. In love with a vampire that abstains from sex before marriage. What do you think of that?
I think that Edward’s afraid of sex (laughs). No, I kind of understand his point of view, because the stage in which you are not sure of yourselves in a relationship is the most exciting. Maybe I’m old fashioned in this respect. There shouldn’t be rules for love. Some couples meet in a bar, sleep with each other the same evening and live happily ever after.

What do you think of girls that cry “Marry me” at your film premieres?
It’s mind-blowing but it’s just a part of my job.

You once said that you had the deepest relationship with your dog…
I was only partly serious. Unfortunately my dog, a West Highland Terrier, died last december. He was 18 years old. I love dogs and I’d love to get one again, an older one that’s already been trained. Do I want a dog that’s already perfect? That would be like getting a furnished apartment. Very impersonal.

But you’re used to that right? You only drive rental cars, live in hotels, eat in restaurants. How does it feel to be homeless?
It’s necessary. In Los Angeles I live in 5 different hotels, because after two days the paparazzi will be waiting in front of the hotel. I don’t buy a house because of that. After one week thousands of people would know were I live – that’s no home.

How is it to live in a hotel?
The roomservice’s not good for me. In London I was addicted to greasy indian chicken dishes. Now in L.A. I order 5 healthy dishes, which are delivered in the morning. I’am only able to make toast and I add barbecue sauce to everything (laughs).

Do you sometimes feel lonely in the hotel?
There’s no time for that. I’m surrounded by people all the time. On the set you ask threehundred people “How’s it going?” every day. I could easily live two months without talking to a single person.

Was it preferable not to be famous?
No, only more boring. Former I wasn’t allowed to enter clubs. Now I’m avoiding them. The four months previous to the first “Twilight” premiere were the months I partied the most. All of a sudden I was standing on the guest list of the coolest clubs of L.A. The paparazzi didn’t know me back then but all of the bouncers let me in. In London things are different. If you slip the bouncer 200 pounds, you get in, no matter if you’re famous or not. But I think my clubbing-times have passed.

Rob Talks about Eclipse, Music and his co-stars Reese, Uma and Kristen

Robert Pattinson is on the news again with the release of his most recent movie Twilight Saga: Eclipse. In this interview young actor talks about Uma Thurman and Reese Witherspoon with whom he worked with in his two new movies, and how he works with his lover Kristen Stewart on set.

- According to what we’ve heard you were so hilarous on set that Taylor Lautner says you always had to reshoot because of your jokes.
Not really, I’m not funny at all (laughs), he is just kidding. These rumors are spread so that I won’t look too grumpy in interviews (laughs louder).

- But isn’t it like a caricature that you are a romantic vampire and that Taylor is a muscular werewolf? You should be laughing about this a lot when cameras are off.
Yes, it is in fact funny but what’s funnier is that actually I have to be as muscular as he is (laughs). I can’t go to the gym, what can I do.

-What makes this new movie enjoyable for you?
I think the increase in the number of actors. In the first two movies there were only two couples and no more. This time cast is expanding and everybody has an important part in the story. This means a large cast with small roles. Also in this movie there are grandiose fight scenes as opposed to the first two movies. And this is a different stand for a Twilight movie.

- What is your most favorite scene in this movie?
There is a scene where Bella kisses Jacob. She comes back to ask forgiveness and Edward acts very understanding about this. I think this is a very nice moment. This is the only scene in the whole series that I can identify with Edward. I don’t think there are many guys who can do this and for me this scene is a sign that he is a good guy.

- But it’s hard to watch another guy kiss and hug the girl you love, isn’t it?Yes but thinking that he always was right… (missing sentences)…. promises that he will do everything as she likes it. This is one of the main themes of Eclipse. Edward tells her that he will never push her again and he stands behind this promise. There is nothing for him to do but wait to see if Bella will come back to him or not.

- Do you believe in pre-marital sex?
I think in that era everyone had sex (laughs loudly), and they were covering it. Few people stick to the rule of not having sex before marriage. The idea that a woman should wander always with his man is ridiculous. I don’t like that men and women act insincerely just to show off or to look decent. If you are a real gentleman, you act like a gentleman anyhow. But if you are doing this just because of rules, there is something wrong with it.

- You said “It achieves to be sexy without sex” for the movie. Do you think this is important in a relationship?
That sentence was an answer to an argument. There was a claim that “the movie is supposed to be sexy but they never have sex.” I said “Why is it supposed to be sexy?” Also when it comes to those moments filled with expectation, there is a certain sexiness and that’s why Twilight is a movie with so many fans. Everybody loves that moment where you see if someone’s love for you is strong enough or not. Fear of sex makes the movie more attractive. If both sides haven’t had sex before this fear is doubled and there are four books written about it, thick books too. I think people like to stay at that moment for a long time.

- Is there anything you kept in mind while playing this character? What do you think about Edward?
Not much, because everything develops naturally. He is someone who hates himself, thinks he is not good enough for anything and does not think he has a right to live. All his lines, all his movements reflect this. So you have to stop thinking and act what is written. But as the series move forward things get easier for Edward and you have to look back and be happy for him. Edward is an anti-hero while at the same time a super hero who doesn’t accept that he is. …(missing sentences)… He always wants to stay modest and doesn’t want the world to know that he is different because he hates himself.

Musician at the same time!

- How did it feel like hearing the song you made for the movie while watching it?
This may sound weird to you but I watched the Twilight series from beginning to end for the first time just last week. They aired it on television. While watching the movie I thought how come I accepted to have my song in the movie. Back then I didn’t think this series would be this popular. If I had known that it was going to be this huge, I would worry about it and would not accept to put it in the soundtrack. If I hadn’t done it before and if they asked me to do it now I would never accept it. Director Catherine Hardwicke has used the song in such a key scene that in a way I’m happy that it made the soundtrack, especially when I think about the circumstances under which the song was written… Two of my friends were staying with me in my apartment in London and they wrote the lyrics randomly while playing a game that we didn’t even think it would become a song. After six months I found the lyrics they wrote, I liked it and suddenly it made the soundtrack!

- You mean acting is your profession but music is your private life. Because we haven’t seen much about your musical side.
You can’t act just because you enjoy it (laughs). Acting is not something like that…

- Do you keep your music hidden just because you want to keep it to yourself or are you afraid of people’s reactions?
Yes, because I don’t know if I can deal with the criticism about my music. I like making music and if I release an album now, a lot of people who hate popular things can go too far and say awful things about me.

- Does negative criticism about your music effects you more than negative criticism about your acting?
Yes, because when it comes to acting I’m at a place where I have to deal with this kind of stuff. But when it comes to music, I don’t want to get up and say “Come on, tell me what you think about it”. I don’t care what anybody thinks because I’m not trying to sell my music, and I don’t need to sell my music, so it’s pointless. I’m playing for my friends and for myself all the time. There are certain people I want to get feedback from but you see how people react to most of the things, they are ready to criticize everything.

- Your new movie is still being shot. Do you request three hour breaks when you want to watch the World Cup games?
No, I record them. Also I requested that there be a TV behind every interviewer I meet with but they didn’t accept it (laughs loudly).

- Do you know where you will be on the day of the final game of World Cup, on July 11th?
I’m still here. I hope some of my friends will come visit. But I work everyday, it’s a little boring.

- You are so busy… what is the definition of the perfect day for you?I don’t know. Sometimes I find myself in such weird environments because of my job… I’m shooting a movie in a desert in Los Angeles and I work in a circus! There are animals and many interesting stuff, every day is a different unbelievable day. A few days ago they brought a 1920’s train that runs with steam and it was such a long train. A scene was being shot in which there were 300 extras. It was the scene where they built the circus tent and really that many people built the tent! Everybody was dressed in 1930’s style and since we were in the desert there was nothing that belonged to the modern world. I stopped and looked around, I was watching elephants, tigers and a steam train. Even if it’s purely fiction, the fact that everything is happening in front of you makes it very real and it’s an incredible experience. I can do such a thing everyday and not consider it as a job.

- You work with Reese Witherspoon in Water for Elephants. Did you start shooting your shared scenes?
Yes, we shot our first scene. In the past we acted in Vanity Fair together. I was her son in that movie, and now we’re acting as two lovers (laughs).

- Did Reese Witherspoon’s children want to meet you?
I don’t know if they did but I met them a few days ago. They looked comfortable…

- What about Uma Thurman with whom you acted together in Bel Ami?
I think her daughter is a fan of the movie. She came by with a friend and they asked for autographs.

- What about Uma?
She is really a wonderful, funny and strong person. By strong, I mean physically strong. In the movie I’m playing a man with leadership spirit and she is playing my wife. There was this scene where I made her subdue …(missing sentences)…

- (missing sentences)… Do you read what is written about you in the media?
I just want to be ready if I have to answer to what is written. I don’t do interviews much, I do it mainly when there is a movie promotion. I rarely go outside, so most of the stuff that is written about me is made up.

- How is it working with Kristen Stewart? Is it easier compared to before or is it harder?
Some things are easier now. One of the most important things about Kristen is that she is a very good actress. You can’t just stand and act when acting with her, you have to be good at this too, which is actually a good thing. It is not possible to relax and rest while working with her. The first two movies we shot were more stressing because we constantly repeated scenes. None of us are a 60 year old actor who has been acting for years but we are pretty proud. Especially Kristen, she is a very serious actor and always aims for the best.

- Do you think you look out for each other? For example, do you share your thoughts when you think a scene could be acted better?
I’m a diferent person while acting and a different one while dealing with movie promotions. I don’t get those people who think movie promotions are very serious stuff. We’ve reached the third movie and people will watch anything with Twilight in title anyway and I have nothing left to say about this. But yes, Kristen likes speaking for me and this can be annoying (laughs loudly).

- Does she want to repeat the scenes often?
Yes, she looks at the director and says let’s shoot again but this doesn’t happen so often.

“Robert Pattinson: For the past three years I’ve heard crazy things about you”

Exclusive interview with Franck Ragaine in Los Angeles

It’s in Beverly Hills that a short haired, relaxed, smiling and sometimes amused Robert Pattinson met with us to speak about Eclipse, the third installment in the Twilight Saga, where he again takes the role that made him a star.

Since the beginning you’ve been compared to James Dean, does that flatter you?
I don’t know… In fact I’ve decided to take it as a compliment. But I know that I can never take the place of a James Dean. Further more the world of movies have changed so much, people like James Dean and Marlon Brando don’t exist anymore. At the time their name alone allowed them to have control on a movie. Today that’s not the case!

Aren’t you scared that you’ll be Edward forever?
If I understand correctly I’ll always be compared to someone else. In fact I’ve realized that the quote “The salary of an actor depends on the success of his last movie” is quite true.

Does the fact that you’re pigeon holed into the skin of this character scare you?
This com parison seems to decrease as the films go. Fans don’t see me like that anymore. Contrarily to the first movie they can differentiate my character and me. At the start when I did public appearances, for them I was Edward 100%. I could read it in their eyes. Many lacked control which scared me. Everything has changed and now when I do interviews I am as honest and sincere as possible. I’m not Edward and I make sure it shows.

Besides every thing else you play with medias, like when you recently said that Kristen Stewart (his partner in Twilight) was pregnant.…
The only times I answer like that is to avoid mani ulation that medias can sometimes do. If I don’t reply seri­ously, they can’t attack me seriously either. It’s a tactic!

In three years you must have read and heard every thing about yourself?
Incredible things! I’d have slept with so many people and made so many girls pregnant… But after a while, the public doesn’t believe what’s said anymore and they tell themselves that it’s not real. Thankfully!

Do you read fan mail?
Sometimes. I think that certain letters don’t get to me. I’m surprised I haven’t received death threats (smiles).

What is the most inde cent pro posal you’ve received from a fan?
I will keep that a secret as it was so indecent I doubt she was in her normal state of mind when she made it.

The funniest experience?
It was recently. It happened while I was filming “Water for Elephants in which my partner is Reese Witherspoon. We had a scene with elephants but there were so many paparazzi around that it was scaring the ani­mals and it was impossible to film. Out of the blue, fans, that were wait ing for autographs, had enough and circled around the paparazzi. Teens made big guys run away. It was unreal! I was pleased.

In Eclipse you play Edward for the third time. Do you fear you’ll repeat yourself?
The more I become familiar with the role, the more I try to do new things and take risks. You can’t be scared to go on unknown areas. The prob lem with Edward is that he doesn’t age, there fore it doesn’t make the task easy. Because for a human being grow ing older brings on many possibilities.

But the relation ship between him and Bella changed in this third installment?
During the first two movies, his only worry was if he wanted to make a life with her. Now that he’s made the decision to marry her, there fore accepting a life in a more human form, it changes everything. He must face the world of the living more than the immortal one. It adds a complexity that’s interesting to play.

With the salaries you get did you do crazy things like buy the car of your dreams?
No, I don’t have a passion for car, I don’t see the point in spending my money on a car. Even clothes, I don’t care much, I wear the same things all the time. But I did buy myself a few guitars.

Rob talks about being Edward, his time off and more in a NEW interview with Top Teen Magazine

First of all, thank you for this interview, Rob. Our readers follow your career very closely.
I’m lucky to have such a nice bond with the fans. They can be inspiring sometimes.

Did you ever dream about making a movie about vampires when you were younger?
Never. I dreamed about having a music career. But I like playing something very different from what I used to see in movies. I wanted to make a movie that action, mystery, but also love as the main theme.

How would you describe the Twilight films?
Definitely not just a vampire movie. It’s a love story that has some extra elements that make it more interesting. It was in this movie that I got exactly what I wanted and needed. The success has exceeded my expectations each time.

Is it hard giving life to Edward Cullen?
In a way it is. In the vampire world, vampires’ feelings and passions are much stronger. They are weird beings, and they do change all the time. Unfortuntately for Edward, all his feelings are focused on a mortal girl, so that probably takes away all his emotional stability. As romantic as he is, he’s still capable of being terrifying and a very strong vampire. That’s why it was hard playing him at times.

People compare their romance to Romeo and Juliet.
Yes, it’s a love that goes beyond any dimension and it can beat the odds. Despite everybody knowing it’s an impossible relationship, there’s a strong bond that ties the other characters to the relationship.

Are you as passionate as Edward?
Definitely. Love is a strong element that I find very necessary in life. I like being romantic, I like falling in love, I like love songs…

What’s your dream girl?
I don’t care about the outside. I don’t have a particular prototype either, nor do I look for the conventional girl. Just as long as she has her own dreams and lives life to the fullest.

What do you like to do on your time off?
Reading. Action stuff, mystery, love. If I have the chance of reading a book, I do it.

How would you describe yourself?
I don’t know, I’m normal? (laughs) well, definitely crazier than normal guys. I just have a restless mind that never leaves me alone. Outside of the studio, I like to have fun. I like going home and sleep in my own bed, even if it’s messier than the rest of the room (laughs).

If you could ask for a wish, what would it be?
I’m very grateful right now, I think life has given me many blessings already.

Would you like to film a movie in Mexico one day?
Sure! I liked Mexico, it was one of my favorite countries to visit. I liked the culture and the people were very friendly to me. I had a nice time there.

You have many fans in Mexico that support you, would you like to send them a message?
I know, I’ve met some of them before. I like sharing this experience with them. I feel lucky of having their affection.

Great New Interview with Paris Match - Rob talks Edward, his favorite movies and even politcs

PM: In Paris, last November you were really scared by the craziness. How do you feel today Robert Pattinson?
Rob: I feel better. I’m starting to get used to Hollywood. It all seems just as crazy to me, but I have more control over myself. I know I have to watch what I’m going to tell you for exam ple… And I’ll never get used to people who spend their lives following me around or to the people who use my name to make money. But I’ve learned to speak about the movie, my character and my career.

PM: In this third installment your character refuses to sleep with Bella and only thinks about one thing: getting married. It’s an ancient couple concept don’t you think?

Rob: This vision is a bit archaic but I assume it. The way I see it, Edward is obsessed that he isn’t human. He would like to not be a vampire. Therefore he takes advantage of every little detail that can bring him closer to “normality”. What’s better than a marriage to feel like every­one else? In all classic vampire stories, they think of sleeping with their prey and are ready to kill for blood. Edward, is searching for simple love, to not be different anymore. But he knows that’s impossible, that he’s damned to eternal life. This is what also causes this profound sadness in him.

PM: Does Edward represent purity?
Rob: He’s as pure as possible! But a vam pire lives by its instinct, which pushed him each day to find blood to feed and that’s not the purest act in the word. Edward is on a spiritual quest. Love seems to be his religion even though he know he’ll never go to heaven.

PM: Did you speak about your character with Stephenie Meyer, the author of the saga?
Rob: Sometimes. She was present on the set of the third installment without being too involved. As long as we haven’t started shooting a scene, I listen to everything people say on my character. Once the camera starts rolling how ver, only the Director speaks to me. I don’t need to have various opinion all the time, or to hear comments.

PM: Are you impatient to be done with Twilight?
Rob: Not really. A saga such as this one allows me to be on screen often with out boring people. If I did one movie after the other I think people would turn away from me. As Twilight has become an important financial asset, pre production is quite fast. It allows me to do other projects between shoot ing 2 movies. Then, the wait is incredible, fans are impatient to see the next “Twilight” They really don’t care about the “new Robert Pattinson”!

PM: Is Edward more popular than Robert?
Rob: You just have to look at the amount of peo ple who went to see Twi light and the amount of peo ple who went to see Remem ber Me (a film in which he played that came out in April)! It made 70 Mil lion at the box office whereas Twi light made 1 bil lion! But for Remem ber Me it’s really good.

PM: Why did you want to become an actor?
Rob: I enrolled in the ater because my dad pushed me too. He thought it would help me over come my shyness. But it’s mostly when I realized that all these pretty girls went to these course that I became more attentive. Before that I hated theatre.

PM: Were you more interested by cinema?
Rob: I never dreamed of being an actor. It was a chain effect. But I always loved movies. This may seem arrogant but I think I have good taste in terms of Directors and movies in general.

PM: What kind of movies did you love?
Rob: American movies from the end of the 60s and the beginning of the 70s and French movies from “La Nouvelle Vague”. For a long time I was obsessed with Godard’s movies. I would dream of learning French to be able to film with him. “Prénom Carmen” is by far the most beautiful love story I’ve seen in movies. When I filmed the first Twilight I had that movie in my head constantly.


PM: How to you imagine the rest of your career.
Rob: I’m reached a high level of fame at an incredible speed. All the movies by authors, the independent movies that I dream to make will surely suffer from it. But it could also help them. I don’t know yet. If Godard hired a French teen idol to be the star of his movie wouldn’t it turn out to be nothing much? I feel like I have the future in front of me but I also know that I have to make the proper decision to get what I want.

PM: Do you discuss your future with Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart?
Rob: We have different ideas on the way we want our careers to evolve. It’s very bizarre. Taylor dreams of doing big block busters, in action movies. Kristen dreams of doing small independent movies that have trouble getting released as for myself I’m a mix of both.


PM: Your sister is in music. Is she jealous of your success?
Rob: No, she’s been writing songs for years, it’s different. My family, my loved ones still live in the UK. They only see from afar this gen­eral craziness, they read it in the press. I don’t think I’ve changed because of the success. My parents came to LA for the first time a few weeks ago. We were con stantly followed by paparazzi. They were a bit over come by everything. But the fact that I’m British helps to not sink into the Hollywood turmoil. Even though you’ll read a lot of things about me I’m actually quite normal. And to be honest I’m seriously thinking of doing music with my sister. It’s a project that should be done before the end of the year.

PM: Did you follow the election in the UK?
Rob: Absolutely! I voted and I think that this coalition can be a plus for this country. Nick Clegg and David Cameron look sincere and honest, full of hope. This duo has to work as well together as Kristen and I do.
