Robert Pattinson On The Chance Of Hosting 'SNL': 'I'm Terrified Of Doing Stuff Like That'

Before the premiere of the 35th season of "Saturday Night Live" in September, we compiled our top five dream host list for the upcoming year, nominating the likes of "Gossip Girl" star Leighton Meester and Captain Kirk himself, Chris Pine. Though Lorne has yet to take us up on any of our suggestions (we're trying not to take it personally, Mr. Michaels), the missing emcee we're most miffed about is "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson.
Obviously we're not the first to suggest the "New Moon" star host an episode of the sketch comedy show. Online petitions have been circulating for more than a year urging producers to bring the dashing Brit to the Studio 8H stage. And with last weekend's supremely funny "Firelight" Digital Short as a tantalizing tease, we don't doubt fan fervor has reached a near fever pitch. But it's really all for not if Rob doesn't want to host the show, right? When we asked the 23-year-old actor about it at a Beverly Hills press junket last week, he did not sound too keen on the idea.
"I don't know what the actual details of doing it is," Rob replied, "but I'm terrified of doing stuff like that."
Known primarily as a dramatic actor, one only has to read an interview with Rob to realize he has quite the witty sense of humor. But apparently, he doesn't see the same comedic chops we do. "I mean, I guess, I don't know [if I'd do it]," he said. "I'd be so [nervous]; it's really putting yourself out there, doing 'Saturday Night Live.' If you're not funny then it's like, 'God, why did that guy do it?'"
Rob did acknowledge one "SNL" gig he'd like to sink his teeth into: writing. "I'd love to write an episode with those guys," he added. "That would be fun, but, I think that's kind of against the protocol."
Maybe a good compromise would be having Rob appear on a "Weekend Update" segment much like Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto did around the time "Star Trek" opened?
