Hometown Interview with Kellan :)
The Dikinson Press has this real cool interview with Kellan:
The “Twilight” movies have raised vampire worship to a blood sport.
And right in the middle of it all is Kellan Lutz, a Dickinson native.
The former Abercrombie & Fitch model plays Emmett Cullen, the burly but laid-back brother to Robert Pattinson’s angst-torn lover/vampire Edward.
Since he joined the “Twilight” franchise, the 24-year-old Lutz has become a regular “It” boy in the notoriously fickle world of Hollywood.
He is slated to appear in “Eclipse,” the third installment of the “Twilight” series in 2010, as well as in the “Nightmare on Elm Street” remake and an indie drama, “Meskada.”
And the muscular, 6-foot-1 Lutz is making female fanpires swoon, whether he’s gamely performing push-ups at a fan tour in Atlanta, appearing in a Self magazine photo shoot with his “Twilight” co-stars or finding himself suddenly handcuffed to an overzealous fan.
Even so, Lutz found a few minutes in his schedule to speak to The Forum.
On his early years in North Dakota:
“I was born in Dickinson. My dad grew up there; that’s where my parents (Brad and Carla) met. My mom is very charismatic; my dad is more laid-back. My dad’s family did a lot of construction in the area. They built the Ralphy’s (restaurant/bar) in Dickinson. They also built a lot of apartment complexes and gas stations.
“It was a really small town when we were all there. I remember it was very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. I fell in love with the cold there. I remember my Mom showing pictures of me running naked in the snow. We’d take trips to Bismarck and Fargo, but there was something about being in that small town. I don’t know what it was. It just made me happy. The air is clean; the people are always so nice.
“I believe I was 6 when we moved away. After my parents divorced, I went with my mother and my father went to L.A. We moved around a lot (throughout the Midwest and Arizona) and tried to find a new home, in a way. A lot of those years we moved around so much that I have very few memories of that time. I would see Dad at Christmastime in L.A., but he had his own hardships. He was on his own, too. He was trying to make his own life in L.A.”
On his grandparents in Dickinson:
“It was always fun to come back to see (his dad’s) parents, Ralph and Hazel (Lutz). They had an amazing house, with a sauna and chandeliers and mirrors on the ceiling. They were just so awesome. I could always make them laugh.
“But their health went pretty quick, probably from the hardships of trying to run a business. Grandma died two years ago, and grandpa had died a couple of years prior to that. Since Grandma passed, they sold the restaurant and the house, but I still have some uncles and cousins there. I’ve wanted to come back.”
On his canceled appearance last summer at a Mott tractor pull:
Lutz said his “Twilight” shooting schedule, which was especially heavy because he did his own stunts, kept him from attending the North Dakota event. “I wanted to do the tractor-pulling contest so bad. I loved tractors. My grandpa used to let me drive combines and one of those tractors to cut the lawn, and I thought I was so big. It’s a bummer. It’s always tough, but I was focused on doing the work (shooting for “Eclipse.”) They get fearful if you fly out. My personal appearance guy and I were hoping for the best, and it’s tough when you’re not able to make it.”
On playing a dark-haired, pale vampire when he’s a blond, Nordic type:
“The more you stay out of the sun, the less makeup they have to put on you. I tan easily, so I try to stay out of the sun so they don’t have to do so much work in makeup. It’s fascinating that some people don’t even recognize me (as Emmett). It’s cool to be an actor who can change their look, build and walk, and not be seen as Kellan, in a way. It’s fun for me.”
On the oddest thing a fan has ever said to him:
“‘Will you marry me?’ Or ‘Could I handcuff myself to you?’ — and they actually had handcuffs.”
On his relationship with his father:
“He’s just a successful, brilliant, intelligent man. He came over last night and we ordered $50 in Pizza Hut and watched the Lakers game. He came with me to Vegas for Halloween. It was so cool seeing him and hanging out with him. One of the main reasons I moved to L.A. was mainly because my father lived here. I had only seen him a couple times a year for 12 years. We never had a dad-son relationship.”
On his future plans:
“We’re working on three action movies. I want to be like Jason Bourne and take over that franchise. I love doing stunts and shooting guns and doing fight scenes. Blowing things up and doing jiujitsu and shooting guns, that’s my forte.”

“Twilight” vampire Kellan Lutz is a huge fan of Matt Damon and says he wants to be just like the Cambridge cutie when he grows up - you know, career-wise.
“I love how he’s very versatile and does romantic comedies to thrillers to action dramas,” the 24-year-old actor told the Track. “I would love to be a realistic action hero like Matt Damon in the ‘Jason Bourne’ franchise. I don’t need a fast car to drive or special weapons. I just love how Bourne has the brains to figure out his situation.”
For now, Lutz will have to settle for starring in the hottest sequel of the year, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” with Tinseltown’s are-they-or-aren’t-they twosome, Robert Pattison and Kristen Stewart .
Lutz, who plays the role of Emmett Cullen in the vampire-book-series-turned-movies, still doesn’t have a full understanding of the “Twilight” tsunami deluging malls and movie theaters across America.
“I really don’t think I have a grasp on what this phenomenon is, just because we are kind of in this ‘Twilight’ zone,” said Lutz, who signed autographs for hundreds of screaming fans at the Natick Collection last night. “It’s been ‘Twilight’ the last two years and it’s going to be ‘Twilight’ the next three years, promoting the other movies. But it’s amazing to be part of something that has such amazing, loving fans that are supportive.”But sometimes the Twi-hards can get out of line!
“This one fan brought her baby in and she wanted me to sign her baby’s forehead,” he laughed. “The baby was bald and she wanted me to permanent marker the baby’s forehead and I was like ‘No! Can I say no to that? There are some really bizarre things.”
Although Pattison and co-stars Taylor Lautner and Cam Gigandet get most of the female attention, Lutz’s alleged romances are also hot Hollywood gossip.
The fang-tastic blond wouldn’t say whether he is currently keeping company with “90210” vamp Annalynne McCord, but he did describe his ideal woman.
“I love confidence,” he said. “I really like a female who can hold her own and just feel comfortable in her skin and is not trying to impress anyone. I love a girl who knows how to book a flight or find movie showtimes. Someone who is a little tech-savvy. I love a girl who’s competitive. I don’t need to win all the time, but I do love someone who can give me a run for the money. I also love a girl who is just intelligent.”

Kellan Lutz Visits Boston
Several hundred of those teenage girls, among others, screamed themselves hoarse Thursday night when Kellan made an appearance at the Natick Collection shopping center in Natick, Mass (close to Boston). He was originally set to appear with costar Ashley Greene, however, a picture of her head on a stick served as a replacement.
“This is great,” he said about all the adoration, shouting over the squealing hordes. “I wish I could do this every day!”
Kellan’s appearance was part of the “New Moon” Mall tour. He, as well as several other cast members have traveled around the country promoting the sequel (stops we've covered here on Crush, include Hollywood, Illinois, New Jersey, Minnesota and Atlanta), which opens in just one week! In between the shrieks of joy, Kellan was able to discuss his childhood ambition to become an actor.
“I grew up in the Midwest, I didn’t realize you could just be an actor,” he said. “I thought it was like being an astronaut. But when I was a kid I used to put on plays for myself.”
Before his main appearance, Kellan took the time to get photos taken with 75 VIP fans. Another 500 fans got to have their "New Moon" posters signed. Many fans were completely undone by their proximity to the “Twilight” hunk.
The band Hurricane Bells (pictured above) performed several songs, including “Monsters,” their song on the “New Moon” soundtrack. Front man Steve Schiltz said they were only told that their song would be included about two months before.
“It’s just crazy,” he said. “I mean, you just look around you. We’ve never played a mall before.”
The event also had free makeovers, giveaways and, of course, plenty of merchandise. Kellan said the tour has showed him the ardor that “Twilight” fans have for author Stephenie Meyer’s creation.
“Doing this has been a roller coaster ride,” he said. “We really are in the ‘Twilight’ zone.”

The Boston area turned into the Twilight Zone with an appearance by Twilight movie actor Kellan Lutz. Lutz plays vampire Emmett Cullen in the movie series. The latest in the series, New Moon, will be released November 20th.
"It's a different type of movie," said Lutz in an interview at a downtown Boston hotel. "It's a different tone, a darker movie, more male friendly and there's a lot more action."
Lutz is in town to promote the movie at appearances at the Natick Collection. On Halloween, the store Hot Topic sold Twilight t-shirts which came with a wrist band admission to meet Lutz.
Allison Aries, 13 years old, couldn't wait to see him.
"I'm so excited," she said. "I freaked out when I found out. He's like one of my favorite characters."
And it isn't just the teenaged girls going wild over Twilight. Camille Forziati of Medford slept in the mall overnight with her daughters, Felicia, 16 and Michelle, 23 to get the chance to meet Lutz.
"She stayed up 24 hours for us," said daughter Michelle.
Her mom chimed in, "Yeah, My back was killing me but I had a really good time."
Something you might not know about Lutz is that he's a huge Patriots fan. He had tickets for last week's game and plane reservations, but had to cancel at the last minute because of the movie promotion tour.
How does a North Dakota native become a New England fan?
"I always loved Randy Moss," he said. "He was with the Minnesota Vikings and I kind of just follow him wherever he goes. And Tom Brady, I just think he's a stud."
It's apparent, that's what the young and not so young ladies think of Lutz. As he poses for pictures and signs autographs, the 24 year old drinks in the attention, much like a vampire drinks blood. He's enjoying it and knows it's the chance of a lifetime.
"I love being part of something like this. It's every actors dream, some work 20 years to be a part of something as magical as this is."
Kellan will be honoured for his charity work!!
OMG Finally! As we already reported, Kellan loves to do Charity work. Now he will be honored in December according to E-Online!
Congrats, Kellan Lutz!
I just got word that the New Mooner will be one of just about five honorees at the upcoming Variety Power of Youth event. Mr. Lutz is being recognized for his work with abused, neglected and abandoned children at the Royal Family Kids Camp.
Power of Youth awards will be given out on Dec. 5 at the Paramount lot in Hollywood.
And you thought only Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart got all the attention!
